Cannabutter Calculator
The math behind edibles trips up everyone: how much THC actually makes it into the butter, and how much lands in each brownie? Enter your flower weight, THC percentage and butter amount to get total milligrams, potency per tablespoon, and a per-serving dose — with decarboxylation loss and beginner-safe dosing guidance built in.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate THC in cannabutter?
Multiply flower weight in grams by 1,000, then by the THC percentage, then by about 0.88 to account for decarboxylation loss. For example, 7 g at 20% THC gives roughly 1,232 mg of active THC in the batch.
How much cannabutter should a beginner use?
Start with a serving containing 2.5–5 mg of THC and wait at least two hours before having more. Edibles take 30 minutes to 2 hours to take effect and last far longer than smoking.
Does decarboxylation reduce THC?
Raw flower contains mostly THCA, which isn't psychoactive until heated. Decarboxylation converts THCA to THC at about 87.7% efficiency, so calculators apply a 0.88 factor to the theoretical maximum.
How many mg of THC are in a tablespoon of cannabutter?
Divide the batch's total THC milligrams by the number of tablespoons of butter. A cup of butter is 16 tablespoons, so a 1,200 mg batch in one cup gives about 75 mg per tablespoon.
